Dr. Jean Tzou

A leading provider of counseling and psychological services, Dr. Jean prides herself in offering the most effective counseling services through individual, couples, family, and group therapy. She also provides a range of services in psychological testing and diagnoses, including ADHD, risk/violence assessment, cognitive, personality and psychological assessments.

Individual Therapy

Ascentia Counseling recognizes that clients know what works best for them. With this in mind, we offer individual therapy both on short- and long-term basis. While some clients seek immediate help to find quick solutions to address pressing concerns, others prefer establishing a long-term therapeutic relationship with the therapist to help build strengths toward reaching personal goals and maintaining emotional well-being. We attune to our clients’ pace and readiness to change while gently challenging them to work through difficult barriers and reward their positive changes.

Highly skilled in conflict resolution, Dr. Jean coaches couples in developing healthy interaction patterns to resolve the everyday conflicts couples face. Rather than focusing on the surface-level conversation or “content,” she helps couples examine the root of a conflict and how it evolved into a larger issue. By learning to shift perspectives and focusing on activating emotions and patterns of their interactions, couples are equipped with the relationship tools to resolve conflicts together. As a result of working with Dr. Jean, many couples have left therapy with new tools to solve their own problems, ways to enrich their connection, and a renewed hope for their relationship.

Group therapy provides an effective approach for clients to gain additional support from and to learn through shared experiences with other group members. In addition to issue-based groups, Dr. Jean specializes in leading interpersonal process groups that provide a safe environment where members learn ways to more effectively express themselves, give and receive feedback, and take risks to trust others. Please note that due to COVID-19, group sessions are currently on pause. However, if interested, please contact us so that we can help once group sessions recommence. Thank you for understanding!

As an adjunct professor and supervisor in teaching psychological testing and diagnosis, Dr. Jean has extensive experience administering psychological assessments for children, adolescents and adults for learning disabilities, cognitive and psychological disorders, as well as anxiety and depression.

Of special interest to our assessment services is working with international clients as they face challenges of court and immigration testing requirements. Clients feel more confident working with Dr. Jean, as she understands the bias embedded in Western testing benchmarks and results, how to navigate them, and the sensitivity in interpretation.
